Rudy’s Birthday Bash

Rudy is an unassuming man. He doesn’t pretend to be somebody because he is SOMEBODY. He doesn’t mince words either if he’s got the chance to talk. He blares out, dude! He means what he means. Literally! No nonsense, whatsoever.

A few weeks earlier, he hinted on inviting us to his birthday in his hometown of Borbon. I’ve never been to Borbon before and I knew nothing about this town except that it’s in far north. Honestly, I was so excited in going with the group not because it’s his birthday but because I want to go places I’ve never gone before.

I hope Nong Rudy doesn’t get me wrong. Of course, I purposely went there to celebrate with you on your birthday.

Monthly Meeting on August 4, 2007

I’d like to remind our members, including all the officers and trustees, to attend our monthly meeting this Saturday, August 4, 2007. Among the agenda that would be discussed on the meeting is the result to our application for accreditation to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Cebu Provincial Board).

Another topic to be discussed is the admission of new applicants to the association. Currently, there are eight prospective applicants who signed up during the 3-day seminar on July 25-27. There would also be an empirical report on our trip to Borbon where we visited the goat farm of Butchoy, one of Cebu’s most successful goat farmers. As a sideline, we also checked out the corn field and a small goat farm of our fellow member, Rudy Monleon.

So please don’t miss out. The meeting, as usual, would start at 2:00 PM inside Dr. Dabucol’s office located at the DA compound along M. Velez St., Cebu City. We hope to start the meeting early so that we can discuss more things.

Your presence in every meeting is a major show of support to our association. We are slowly but gradually reaching our goal through collective efforts.

See you there.

COFGA Attends Seminars

Spearheaded by its President, Mr. Boy Moreno, eight members of Cebu Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association attended the 3-day seminars initiated by the Institutional Development Services office of the Department of Agriculture for Region 7.

There were three main topics for the seminars that kicked off On July 25. First off, was the ‘Pinakbet Vegetable Production’ seminar on the first day. This seminar focused on the production of the main ingredients of the popular Filipino veggie dish – pinakbet. These are eggplant, ampalaya (bitter gourd), okra, squash and string beans. The seminar turned out to be the least attended of all the seminars attesting the facts that less and less Filipinos are eating vegetables year after year based on a study conducted between 1970 and 2003.
